RCIA Rite of Catholic Initiation for Adults

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is a spiritual process whereby those who wish to learn more about the Catholic Faith are welcomed and accompanied by Parishioners and Sponsors to explore their relationship with God and how that is lived in the Catholic Tradition.

In John's Gospel 1:37 we read: “The two disciples heard him say this and they followed Jesus. When Jesus turned and saw them following he said to them ‘What are you looking for?’ they said to him, ‘Rabbi’ (which translated means ‘Teacher’) ‘where are you staying?’ He said to them, ‘Come and see’.”

We now invite you to: “Come and see”.

The Parish of St John Vianney (Morisset and Cooranbong) welcomes anyone enquiring about the Catholic faith.

It doesn't matter what the reasons or the inspiration for enquiry, you are invited to begin this journey in a warm and nurturing environment within a small and supportive group who will journey with you towards Easter. For those candidates who feel ready, they are received into the Church at the Easter Vigil Ceremony (the highlight of the Church's Liturgical Year).

Anointing of the Sick

1499 “By the sacred anointing of the sick and the prayer of the priests the whole Church commends those who are ill to the suffering and glorified Lord, that he may raise them up and save them. And indeed she exhorts them to contribute to the good of the People of God by freely uniting themselves to the Passion and death of Christ.”97 Catechism of the Catholic Church

Communion to the Sick

Anyone requesting Communion to the Sick, please contact the Parish Office on 4973 6859 with details.

Important Information

Due to Privacy Laws any Catholic member admitted to hospital or nursing home who requires Holy Communion, Anointing of the Sick and / or Reconciliation must make this request in person by completing an “Authority Form” available from either the hospital / nursing home staff, or the local Parish Office. If the Patient is not able, then the Patient representative may sign on their behalf. A priest or Communion Minister cannot attend a patient unless formally requested to do so. In cases of emergency the hospital staff can contact a Priest.

To date the “Pre-Baptism Program” has been a great success with as many as 30 Baptisms in a year.

The program consists of two sessions of approximately 1½ hours after the Sunday morning Mass. The sessions are held 6 times a year in February, April, June, August, October and December. Team members include John and Uta France, Jenny Douglas and Kay Amon.

Most of our families have responded very positively and are then included in the follow-up “Godstart” program, where the Children are sent a card on their next four birthdays followed with a little ‘Prayer Book’ and ‘Activity Book’. Further to this is the personal invitation of all Baptised children now pre-kinder, and their parents, to an information night at the School regarding the next year’s School enrolments. The School and the Parish collaborate with a get-together later in the year so families can meet and see facilities.

Julie Hutchins is instrumental in carrying out the “Godstart” initiative.

Both programs have worked well and are going from strength to strength.

NOTE: For Adult baptism enquiries refer to “RCIA” Program.

We wish to invite children who will be in Year 3 in 2019 or older and their families to take part in our 2019 Sacramental Program for Confirmation, Reconciliation and First Eucharist. If you would like your child to take part please contact the parish office Mon—Fri  9am –2pm on 4973 6859.

To arrange a Funeral Service or Mass please contact the Parish Office.

Funerals are carried out with simplicity, joy, sadness and in a supportive atmosphere. Our Parish funeral ministers, Uta France and Dan Joyce, help grieving families to prepare the funeral ceremony of their loved one, and help to compose a simple outline for families to put together an “Order of Service” booklet for the occasion. Both have completed a Diocesan course for “Presiders at Funerals” and have been authorized by Bishop Michael Malone to conduct Funeral Services. They have extensive Pastoral experience in this position.
